Wake Tech Athletics Stands with Southeast Texas

Even before Hurricane Harvey had moved away from southeast Texas, University of Houston men's basketball coach Kelvin Sampson took to Twitter asking for coaches to send donations to the residents of the region who were impacted by the storm.

What followed was a display of unity among athletic departments across the country.  Wake Tech joined more than 1,000 schools (including NC State, Duke, and UNC) in donating shirts, shorts, sweats, and other items which will be given to those who are desperately in need following the high winds and flooding from Hurricane Harvey.

"Our thoughts are with those in Houston and southeast Texas who have suffered," said Athletic Director Barry Street. "Wake Tech serves our student athletes by promoting success in the classroom along with leadership development.  In times like these, leaders take action.  I applaud Coach Sampson for reaching out, and I am proud of our athletes and staff for answering the call."
