Assistant AD Brett Rutherford accepts AD position at Tallahassee State College
RALEIGH, N.C. — Assistant Athletic Director for External Operations Brett Rutherford will depart Wake Tech later this month after accepting the Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation position at Tallahassee State College.
"Wake Tech will always have a place in my heart," Rutherford said. "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here, and will look back on our successes with great fondness, including baseball's recent Region 10 championship. I am forever grateful to Robin Pate for this opportunity, and my wife Edyney and I will be Eagles fans for life."
During his time at Wake Tech, Rutherford oversaw game operations, athletic communications, and served as sport administrator for the Eagles' women's soccer, men's basketball, and baseball programs. He assisted in the revival of the Wake Tech Eagles Golf Classic, a major fundraiser for the department.
He returns to Tallahassee State College, where he got his start in college athletics as a play-by-play announcer and sports information assistant. He served as Assistant for Athletics and Communication at TSC before departing for Wake Tech in October 2023.
"This is an incredible opportunity for Brett, and I could not be more proud of him," Athletic Director Robin Pate said. "He has been an integral part of our department's growth since he arrived, and I cannot wait to see the success ahead for him and Tallahassee State College over the next few years. I wish nothing but the best for Brett and Edyney as they embark on this new part of their journey."
"I'm excited for Brett," said Brian Anweiler, Dean of Student Activities and Athletics at Wake Tech. "Tallahassee State holds a special place in my career, as it's where I began my journey as an administrator and later served as athletic director. I look forward to watching Brett lead the program and build on its strong foundation."
The search for a new Assistant AD for External Operations will begin immediately.
