Eagles top Southeastern in back-and-forth affair, 11-7
Wake Tech and Southeastern passed the lead back and forth six times on Saturday at Southeastern Community College.
Wake Tech and Southeastern passed the lead back and forth six times on Saturday at Southeastern, but in the end the Eagles pulled out an 11-7 win in seven innings over Southeastern Community College.
The Eagles took the lead in the seventh inning and held on for the victory. The Eagles scored on a two-run single by Travis Owens off Peter, scoring Matt Mauldin and Garrett Wise.
Angel Santiago racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Eagles. He doubled in the first inning and homered in the fifth inning.
Trey Davis shut down Southeastern CC while he was on the hill. Southeastern CC managed just two hits off of Davis, who allowed one earned run, walked two and struck out six during his 3 2/3 innings of work.
The top of the first saw the Eagles take an early lead, 2-0. Mauldin kicked things off for the Eagles with a single. A stolen base then moved Mauldin from first to second. Santiago doubled, plating Mauldin. The Eagles then tacked on more runs when Santiago scored on an RBI single by Owens.
Southeastern CC answered the Eagles' top inning with two runs of its own in the first. Southeastern CC scored on a groundout by Hetzel and a wild pitch.
A key seventh-inning rally gave the Eagles the lead for good. the Eagles tacked on a total of six runs on two doubles and an RBI single by Wise.
