Paul Gervase becomes second former Wake Tech player to reach the Major Leagues
Paul Gervase made his MLB debut for the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend, pitching two scoreless innings in a win over the Detroit Tigers. Gervase becomes just the second former Wake Tech player to reach the big leagues, after Austin Warren debuted with the Los Angeles Angels in 2021.
Gervase made seven appearances on the mound for the Eagles in the COVID-shortened 2020 season.
After Wake Tech, Gervase pitched for one season at Pitt Community College, before transferring to LSU, serving primarily as the team's closer. He was drafted in the 12th round of the 2022 MLB Draft by the New York Mets. After working his way up to AA Binghamton in the Mets organization, Gervase was acquired by the Tampa Bay Rays in July 2024.
