MORRISVILLE, NC – On June 20, Wake Tech's Rocket League team had an exciting opportunity to connect with some of the world's top esports athletes at the college's RTP Campus in Morrisville. Members of Gentle Mates, a premier Rocket League team based in Paris, visited the campus ahead of the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) Major, set to take place at Raleigh's Lenovo Center from June 28-29.
Gentle Mates players Charles "Juicy" Sabiani, Enzo "Seikoo" Grondein, and Liam "yujin" Daillac, along with their coaching staff, used their time at Wake Tech to prepare for the upcoming championship. The visit offered Wake Tech students a unique chance to observe and interact with elite competitors as they honed their skills for the high-stakes tournament.
The RLCS Raleigh Major is the second major event of the year, featuring 16 of the world's best Rocket League teams battling for a share of a $351,000 prize pool and crucial RLCS points needed to qualify for the Rocket League World Championship.
The event will be broadcast live from June 26-29, with doors at the Lenovo Center opening to fans on June 28-29. Spectators will have the chance to watch the world's greatest Rocket League players compete for the title of Raleigh Major champions.
Rocket League, developed by Psyonix and released in 2015, is a fast-paced arcade sports game where rocket-powered cars play soccer. The game demands exceptional technical skill, including aerial control, boost management, and pinpoint accuracy. Matches last just five minutes, with the team scoring the most goals declared the winner. If tied, the game enters a sudden-death overtime, where the first team to score wins.
Wake Tech is proud to support the growth of esports and provide students with opportunities to engage with the global gaming community.
