Esports Hosts Inaugural Charity Tournament Benefiting Children’s Miracle Network
Wake Tech Community College's Esports program successfully hosted its inaugural Wake Tech Extra Life Charity LAN Tournament, raising more than $700 for the Children's Miracle Network and Duke Children's Hospital.
The all‑day event, held March 6, 2026, at Wake Tech's RTP Campus in Morrisville, brought together Valorant collegiate esports teams from Elon University, UNC‑Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University, and Wake Tech for a double‑elimination competition streamed live over thirteen hours.
UNC‑Chapel Hill secured first place in the tournament, followed by Wake Tech in second and NC State in third.
"We hope to engage in future events, whether it be hosting more LANs at Wake Tech, participating in rival school tournaments, or simply giving the Wake Tech Esports teams a platform for competition," said Lilibet Lopez, who oversees Wake Tech's esports program.
The tournament was organized in partnership with Extra Life, a year‑round Children's Miracle Network fundraising initiative that supports local children's hospitals through critical treatments, advanced research, pediatric medical equipment, and important child life services.
Wake Tech Esports plans to continue expanding its community engagement efforts through future competitive and charitable events.
