Eagles pick up fifth-straight win before start of conference play
RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake Tech men's basketball won their fifth-straight game to improve to 5-4 on the season Monday evening, defeating Patrick & Henry 65-53.
Sophomore guard Andrew Navarro led with 16 points on 7-for-20 shooting. He added eight rebounds and three steals. Charles Matheka had a productive game as well, despite scoring just four points. He brought in a career-high eight rebounds, dished out six assists, and recorded three steals. Matheka now has 21 steals over the last three games. Shamel Baker finished with 14 points, also a new career-high for the sophomore guard. Forwards Tequan Holley and DJ Charles reached double figures with 10 points each, with the freshman Charles setting a new career-high.
The Eagles shot 11-for-14 from the free throw line, putting together another strong performance from the charity stripe. During their five-game winning streak, the team is shooting 81.1% from the line, compared to 63.8% for the first four games of the season.
Wake Tech travels to play Richard Bland on Wednesday evening, their first conference game of the season. Last season, the Eagles split their two matchups with the Statesmen, with each team winning their home game.
