Bio
With more than 33 years of coaching experience, Roger Longwell brings a passion for player development and a commitment to excellence to the Wake Tech softball program. Holding a master's degree in Sports Management, Longwell has spent over three decades specializing in softball pitching instruction, mentoring athletes who have advanced to every level of collegiate competition, including NJCAA, NAIA, and NCAA Divisions I, II, and III.
Before beginning his coaching career, Longwell proudly served 22 years in the United States Air Force from 1973 to 1995. His military service instilled the discipline, leadership, and integrity that continue to shape his coaching philosophy and approach to mentoring student-athletes.
Longwell's coaching legacy includes a distinguished 16-year tenure at Wayne Christian School, where he founded the school's softball program and guided the team to two state championships. Beyond building a successful program, he fostered a culture centered on personal growth, teamwork, character development, and faith-based mentorship.
Over the past four years, Longwell has continued to make a significant impact on high school softball across eastern North Carolina. His teams have achieved considerable success, including a state finals appearance, while his leadership has helped young athletes develop both on and off the field.
Longwell's long-standing relationship with Wake Tech Head Coach Keith Edgerton began years ago when their daughters played travel softball together. That connection evolved into a trusted coaching partnership built on mutual respect, shared values, and a common commitment to helping student-athletes reach their full potential.
A respected teacher of the game and mentor to countless players, Roger Longwell remains dedicated to developing the next generation of softball talent through a steadfast commitment to excellence, character, and purpose.
