Bio
Coach Sterling Holmes is a native of Benson, North Carolina, and has dedicated more than 36 years to coaching fastpitch softball. A two-time high school state championship coach, he is entering his fifth season as a collegiate coach at Wake Technical Community College, where he is committed to developing athletes both on and off the field.
Coach Holmes proudly served six years in the United States Air Force before continuing his passion for coaching and mentoring young women through the game of softball. Alongside his wife, Gayle, he is the co-owner of the Crossfire Fastpitch Organization. He and Gayle are proud parents of two daughters, Summer and Alex, and cherish spending time with their granddaughter, Miya.
Coach Holmes believes success is built on discipline, accountability, and a love for the game. His coaching philosophy is best summed up by his favorite saying:
“Players don't make mistakes. They create learning opportunities.”
