RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake Tech Community College women's soccer earned a decisive 7–0 victory over Central Carolina Community College's club team on Tuesday afternoon at WRAL Soccer Park.
The Eagles struck early when freshman forward Kaylee Faile opened the scoring in the 5th minute. It was the first of four goals for the Rocky Mount, NC native. After two games she now has five goals on the season.
Sophomore midfielder Mariah Olivares doubled the lead in the 18th minute, and Kaylee Williams made it 3-0 in the 38th.
Wake Tech didn't score again until the 75th minute, when Faile picked up her second goal of the day. Jocelyn Tavira-Gallardo scored her first goal in the 81st minute, and Faile recorded the final two of the game in the 83rd minute, and a converted penalty kick in the 87th minute.
Wake Tech controlled possession throughout the match, outshooting Central Carolina 41–1 with 22 shots on target. Camila Kern was credited with the assist for Williams goal in the 38th minute, and both Tavira-Gallardo and Jessica Haswell tallied assists on Faile's 83rd minute goal.
On the defensive end, the Eagles limited Central Carolina to just one shot on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Katelynn Angel earned her first collegiate shutout with one save, while the back line helped preserve the clean sheet.
Next up, the Eagles host Shaw University on Friday, September 19 at WRAL Soccer Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 PM.
