RALEIGH, NC — Wake Tech Volleyball improved to 2-1 on the season in their home opener on Tuesday night, defeating USC Sumter 3-1.
Wake Tech trailed just once in the first set when Sumter took the first point. After that it was all Eagles. A service error sealed the first set, 25-20 in favor of the Eagles.
It was more of the same in the second set for Wake Tech, at one point stretching their lead to 22-10. Sumter went on an eight-point run to cut into the deficit, but Wake Tech took the set 25-20 once again. Sumter prevented a sweep by fighting off the Eagles in the third, taking it 26-24.
Freshman Marlaina Vicente finished it off in the fourth set, picking up the match-winning spike.
The Eagles have a week before their next match, when they'll head north on 401 to take on Louisburg.
