Eagles open season with victory in five-set thriller
SUMTER, S.C. (August 21) – Wake Tech volleyball earned a hard-fought road victory Wednesday night, defeating USC Sumter in five sets (19-25, 25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 15-12). The Eagles are off to a 1-0 start for the first time since 2022, doing so against a tough NJCAA Division I foe.
After dropping the opening set, the Eagles responded with back-to-back wins in the second and third frames to take the lead in the match. The Fire Ants rallied to force a decisive fifth set, but Wake Tech secured the win 15-12 in the final frame.
On Saturday, the Eagles return home for a match against Caldwell Tech. That match is scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm, in Building K on the Scott Northern Wake Campus. Admission is $10, but free for all Wake Tech students, faculty, and staff (with Wake Tech ID), and for all fans 18 and under. All home matches will be streamed on the Wake Tech Eagles YouTube channel.
